Today, let’s talk about the woman with the issue of blood in the Bible. You probably have heard many sermons about this particular story. I know I have.
This woman spent twelve long years of her life struggling with a disease. If you are a woman, you might know how exhausted we are in our time of the month. Imagine this woman dealing with a condition like this for twelve years. This woman spent years going back and forth to medical experts seeking healing. She probably had spent all the money she had.
To understand her struggle, let’s go with me in the Bible to the book of Leviticus and read with me chapter 15:19-30. If you read it, you now understand that what she was going through was not only physical, but was also emotional and psychological.
For twelve years, this woman was considered to be unclean according to the law. Everything she touched was unclean. Anyone who came close to her was unclean. This woman was in isolation. If you want to understand isolation, think about our current time now as many of us had to quarantine or had to stay away from everything and everyone until we got cleared from Covid.
Now, after she had exhausted all her resources. In Luke 8:43, it says that “but no one could heal her”. This woman was desperate for healing.
In Luke 8:40, it says that people were expecting for Jesus to come. Guess who else was expecting Jesus? This woman.
I bet she came with the expectation that day that she would do whatever she could to get better. She was so desperate that she did not think about all that could go wrong if some would see her in the crowd touching other people[since she was considered unclean]. This woman was desperate that she did not care what others would say or think. She was determined to get her healing. She said in her mind, if only I could touch the hem of his garment, I would be healed.
She did not even care if Jesus saw her or spoke with her. All she wanted was to touch his clothes. Her touch was a touch of faith and that is why Jesus asked in verse 45, “Who touched me?”
She laid out everything out there in front of the crowd, and Jesus restored her. Her restoration was not only physical but emotional, psychological and social.
When we read this story, it is easy to only see how she got healed physically and to miss there was an even bigger part to it- Restoration.
This woman was desperate for a healing from Jesus, but got something even better:Restoration.
I wonder how many of us would be restored if we were desperate for God. When we put our faith in God desperately, He has the power to restore us and to turn around our situations.

Prayer:
Father God, we thank you that we have a High Priest who can empathize with us. We thank you that you only can restore us and give us peace. We pray for restoration over our minds, body and souls. We pray that every stronghold in our lives be broken by the power of the holy spirit that lives in us. In Jesus Name, we pray! Amen.
