“And whatever you, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance… ” (Colossians 3:23)
Hello you all. Welcome to part 4 of my 5 part series on biblical verses I live by and why. I am sharing my fourth verse today which is found in the book of Colossians.
About a year ago, I worked on a new assignment with a group of people. I was surprised by the lack of passion and the lack of discipline among them. To some, it was just another assignment, and did not care if it was done right or wrong. These people accepted to live a mediocre life even with all the potentials they have. No judgment, though! Everybody just got a different perspective on things in life. I remember how I would pray for them. I also remember how I would pray to never be discouraged in doing the right things, even when no one is watching.
This verse right here is my to-go verse regarding my perspective on how to do things in life. Whether it seems small or big, I learned to do it with all I got for the Master. Even when I am alone, I know that God is watching. If I ever feel that I am not as effective as I am supposed to be, I ask God for directions. At the end of the day, I know that I will need to report to Him and not to men. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed when really all we need is to shift our perspective.
When you do things for God instead of men, you know that your reward is greater than what a man could ever give you. When you do things for God, you know that your work is not in vain. When you do things for God, you do it with love and kindness. When you do things for God, you know that hard times may come, but He will guide you towards greener pastures. I love what King David said in the Psalms 37:25. He says: ‘I have been young, and now am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.”(NKJV)
I know there will be times when you will feel underappreciated by men even after all the efforts and hard work. That is one reason why whatever you do to make sure you do it first for the Lord.
